Construction: The Lodge is solidly built for the extreme conditions in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Construction consists mostly of insulated concrete forms (14" thick walls of concrete, steel and R-40 insulation), some 2X6 framing, and 100 lb. roof loads throughout. The Lodge was purposefully designed to be "Green" so that we may enjoy the beauty of the mountains for many generations with minimal impact to the environment. We sincerely hope that our guests share these values.
Electric and Gas: Standard services from X-cel Energy
Water: 415 ft. deep well, flowing from a generous, high-volume aquifer. Water softener.
Hot Water: High-efficiency, 75 gallon rapid-replenish system. Plenty of hot water!
Heating: High-efficiency Natural Gas furnace.
Septic: Large system that produces "clean" gray water (not black water), with an underground irrigation system used to nourish the native trees. This sophisticated system is remotely monitored to ensure proper operation, and provides minimal impact on the land. This allowed us to retain trees that would otherwise have been removed had we installed a cheaper, less environmentally-friendly system.

Transportation and Parking:
The closest major airport is Denver International (DIA). It is about 90 miles from the lodge. The drive is basically scenic Interstate, with only the last 2 miles off the Interstate on local roads. It takes about 90 minutes to get to the lodge in good traffic. Several major rental car companies provide service from DIA.
Driving an appropriate vehicle is probably your best option for getting around in the mountains. There is a local free bus service around the the county (Summit Express) and also a shuttle service to/from DIA, Denver and other locations (Colorado Mountain Express).
Most of the time, a front-wheel drive vehicle can be appropriate for driving in the mountains of Colorado. However in the winter, even though the roads are maintained, they can become icy at any time, especially in the higher elevations on the Interstate or the local hills around the lodge. When we do get one of our large dumps of snow in Colorado a good 4X4 vehicle is a necessity. For this reason we recommend a vehicle with 4X4 traction in the Winter months when visiting the mountains of Colorado.
Absolutely. All highways and all local roads are maintained. The lodge also has a professional service that plows our driveway after every snowfall of 3 inches.
